Airbnb, one of the online platform that connects travelers with hosts who offer accommodation, has announced that it has bought GamePlanner.AI, a startup that focuses on artificial intelligence (AI). AI is a field of computer science that tries to create machines or software that can do tasks that usually need human intelligence, such as understanding language, recognizing images, or making decisions.
GamePlanner.AI was launched in 2020 by Adam Cheyer, who is also one of the creators of Siri, the voice assistant that is built into Apple devices. Cheyer and his team of 12 people have been working on creating AI tools that can produce content, such as stories, games, and travel plans, based on user preferences and feedback. They also have skills in natural language processing, which is the ability to analyse and produce human language.
Airbnb said that it will use the AI technologies and tools from GamePlanner.AI to improve its platform and offer more tailored and engaging experiences to its users. For instance, Airbnb could use AI to create personalized travel guides, recommend activities, or produce stories based on user data and reviews.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said that AI will quickly change the world more than any other technology in our lifetime, but it needs to be used in a way that supports humanity in a positive way. He said that Airbnb is one of the more human-centered companies in technology, and that he believes that together with Cheyer and his team, they can create some of the best interfaces and practical applications for AI. Cheyer said that he was drawn to Airbnb by its shared vision of using AI to enable human connection, and that he thinks that with great design and community-based intelligence, AI can reach its full potential.
